Autumn is almost here!

Woohoo! New update!

I posted six new pieces tonight, a variety of necklaces, as well as a pendant and a bracelet.

I love this time of year, when the leaves are starting to fall, the sky is crisp and clear, and all us little weird people are gearing up for the Halloween season. I know so many people who get more excited over the end of October than they do for December, and that includes me.

I found some of the coolest skull beads and focal pieces to work with, so I have started a series for the Day of the Dead, which I think is such a great celebration. Google it if you don't know much, the artistic sugar skulls alone will be worth it!

Updatedness! 8-27-08

Ok, so I'm in the middle of working on an actual website! YAY!

My good friend, nomadicdragon, has taken some very awesome professional photos of my jewelry, so those will be up soon.

I finally got back on track last night after a good three weeks of family and my day job being very .. insane. But the family went back to New York, and while the dayjob is still taking a lot of my time, I should be back into the groove shortly.

I made two pairs of earrings and a necklace last night. The necklace started out having drops of citrine, but ended up being an autumn berry sort of wire wrapping almost. It turned out very nice, I think, so I'll have that up on etsy soon too.

I will be taking Yule orders through the end of September, possibly into October. I also have some ideas for some Halloween and Day of the Dead themed pieces. Keep an eye out for those!

And for my last little note, make sure to check out Heathen's Hearth and their blog here. That's my best friend, Misty, and she makes some REALLY very yummy soaps with her friend, A.

One of the hardest things for me...

Is learning how to not be so critical of my own work.

I see how people around me are so wonderfully creative, and then I look back at my own pieces and think "Oh, my. GODS."

I think it's because I can see and feel where my preceived flaws are in my creations. I know in my head that these flaws are what makes each piece unique and different, and sets it apart as handmade/handwrapped.. but at the same time, I hold such high expectations for myself. Never good.

My challenge for myself tonight will be to design a piece that is completely random, free form, and messy, so I can see the beauty in the unconventional.

Busy, Busy!

I am absolutely thrilled beyond words that I have The Damned Muse up and running on Etsy, and am now part of the PagansOfEtsy Street Team (POEST).

I have always been an artsy person, always drawing and painting, and just recently in the past five years, teaching myself how to make jewelry. I started with some wretched pieces, mostly bracelets on wire string (I think it's called Tiger Wire?). It's good, if you know how to use it and it works for your purposes, but at the time, I was HORRIBLE at figuring out how to use it to string beads.. and I still wasn't creating what I saw in my head.

So I moved on to sterling silver wire, which I love. I recently added copper and gold filled wire, though I am beginning to prefer copper now. I love how it shines so brightly and how it looks with the stones, crystals, and minerals I use.

Where do I get my inspiration? From lots of places - a friend's poetry, a LiveJournal challenge, storms raging outside, and my Damned Muse occasionally tosses me into a frenzy of ideas and sketches. I don't know yet if She has a name, or maybe She's just another aspect of one of my Goddesses, but I am thankful for Her influence on my art and my life.

A little about me:

I am what I consider an eclectic pagan, with roots in various traditions and belief systems. I am tolerant of all spiritual and religious beliefs, as long as they are tolerant of me and mine. I believe everyone has the right to love who they love, regardless of age, gender, or nationality. And I believe in the evolution of our Selves.

What to expect from this Blog:

Updates of what I'm doing, what I have for sale, and occasionally, a request for a challenge of some sort.
